The key question

The key question isn’t “What fosters creativity?” But it is why in God’s name isn’t everyone creative? Where was the human potential lost? How was it crippled? I think therefore a good question might be not why do people create? But why do people not create or innovate? We have got to abandon that sense of amazement in the face of creativity, as if it were a miracle if anybody created anything.           Abraham Maslow

Now where do creative people – creators – stand in a society? Out of many factors it depends upon their area of creativity(activity) and more importantly on the set of values their society has and the environment where they create.

Literature, advertising, performing arts etc are the most common of the disciplines come to one’s mind, thriving with creativity.. coming to us in the form of books, billboards, ads, music and movies. But how the people from other walks of life, the areas which are not for masses- which don’t require consumer’s attention, can be creative. OK I put an easy question : how can a politician be creative? You know he is.

Let’s take the case of a mother; as soon as a woman becomes a mother, her creative mind starts to grow. She finds ways to cater the day to day problems regarding her child and home, to bring more comfort to her baby. To me a mother is a symbol of creativity (besides love and sacrifice). She finds solutions (or workarounds) to all small and big problems. That’s why we sometimes want to think like a mother – to have that gift.

But – and a big BUT, is it only for solving the problems you can be creative?
Finding possibilities is also a way to be creative – and a more difficult one. It’s a misconception about creativity that it is always used to solve problems. Infact creativity shines and proves itself when presented in a satiated environment – where satisfaction prevails.

To progress we need to move from certainty to possibility. Infact there is no certainty so we need to learn to move from possibility to possibility as we can’t move from certainty to certainty.
… Getting a bit complicated !!

After a long time I am revitalizing this blog… which I thought would be about creativity. Ironically I ran short of ideas ( or I didn’t get much time) to keep posting on this topic. I’ll try to be regular this time…

I read in an article last year that Dr. Javed Iqbal ( yes, the son of Allama Iqbal… and that’s how we know him) has come up with this theory that whosoever leaves this world without being creative i.e. without creating something, will not get a life hereafter…. hmmmmmmmm Well Dr. Sahib has secured his place, I think, by propounding this theory.

To many people being creative comes up with a desire to leave their mark in this world. Off course you can’t leave/make your mark by doing mundane things .. sleeping, eating and watching TV and even following the routine targets and routine orders from your boss. You need to be creative for that.

how long will this blog last?
